Poorly Shod

This is how I know that having 4 children is wearing me out, lowering my standards, removing all vanity from my life, edging me closer to insanity...

I just could not search the house one more second for a matching pair of these:

Really, Seth, I'm sorry. But better to get used to the neglect and humiliation now. I have a feeling it's going to get worse, before it gets better.

Thank you for your honesty. At least he has shoes on, right? I prefer to think of situations like these as "character building", rather than humiliating. Of course, I can justify just about anything. I consider it one of my Heaven sent talents.

That's funny. My B would throw a huge tantrum if I tried that! She is pretty picky about what she wears...of course, she is my second. I'm sure by my fourth things will be different!!

Jaxon would LOVE IT if I let him wear mismatched shoes to school. They had a crazy clothes day last month, and he was in heaven.

That's awesome. He'll get some originality points with that outfit. I can't let my boys see that picture though or they'll be begging me to mismatch their shoes to school.

the upside is that at least it wasn't YOU wearing the mismatched shoes. or showing up at a job interview still wearing your flip flops because you forgot to change shoes when leavin the house.
explore the hypothetical possibilities and give thanks.

I hear that mismatching shoes are the NEW thing. Every child with three siblings is doing it....

Ilene said...

Just take 'em to McDonald's- he gets to take the shoes off as soon as he gets there.

Or blame the shoes on Seth- say he threw a fit if you tried to put matching shoes on him.

When I saw the picture, I thought it was YOU with the mismatched shoes. Kids in mismatched shoes is cute. If it were you I would worry.

Lisa-Marie said...

I agree with Paige. VERY cute.

And I also agree with Lauren. I love the honesty. Cause guess what? We've all done THAT very thing or something similar. (For example. Sometimes, if I'm behind on laundry, Connor gets to wear his sister's undies! Don't tell anyone.)

P.S. So? Did your comment mean that you are in? I wasn't sure. But I hope. Sometimes I am not as witty as you and so I can't follow. I'm dingy! If you are in, send me your e-mail.

I can't even tell you how many times Ben has had to go to church with one blue sock and one black sock!

I think you are doing just fine.

That's funny. Poor little last born children, we mothers just can't keep up enough to keep them crisp and clean and with matching shoes.

Send him tomorrow with a lunch bag full of nothing but candy. See just how many days it takes the school to call home. Call it a social experiment.

Henry wears mismatched socks every day, and he likes colored ones. I've decided to let it be his "signature". Nice of me, huh?

I do stuff like that all the time and then blame it on the kids. It's ok. Really.

I brought mine to church just last night with one shoe on! I didn't think to just put on another that doesn't match. Genius! Everyone kept saying "he's missing a shoe." and for a while I would say "yeah, thanks." Finally by the end of the night I just responded with "he's my fourth, he only gets one."

bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha!

What is up with missing shoes anyways? Seriously? Where do they go???

Cami said...

Ha! At least Seth has shoes on. I usually just take Bryce sockless and carry him everywhere. He just screams 'down, down' as we go along.
Seth will grow up healthy and well adjusted. I think you'll agree that being the oldest doesn't always guarantee that! ;)

Oh my gosh, that cracks me up. Grace wore a horse costume the other day to the store and when people laughed at us, I just said, "it's my 4th and I'm tired." They just laughed harder.

Hey at least he had shoes on, I saw a kid at Walmart, in negative degree weather mind you, without shoes or socks. The poor little girls feet were all red and looked so sore.

Penny said...

Hey, he had shoes on. So, it counts. That is what's important, right?

Jill said...

Well done mom!

Nice that he's still young enough (and boy enough) to go along with it right?:) My poor son is so borderline OCD that this would never fly. We're talking tears and shrieks of horror before he would leave the house mismatched! Awww, funny kids.

Such a last child thing! Poor Breggan had to wear pink and purple Winnie the Pooh boots sledding!!

too funny. I've done the same - only not noticed until they came IN from school! seriously.

I think that puts me a notch below you. Sigh.

Just tell him some pioneers had to go around with NO shoes. That oughtta make him feel grateful =)!

I'm impressed that he has two shoes on. I can't tell you how many times I get my kids ready to go somewhere and long before the time they get buckled into their carseats they have decided they didn't want shoes and/or socks so they took them off and laid them on the couch, floor, etc. I would have to say that at least once or twice a week we get to our desired destination only for me to discover one or both my little ones are shoeless. Kudos to you for checking to make sure that two shoes are on his feet.

Sorry about the multiple posting. I don't know what happened there. Must be time for bed.

Eli has the brown shoes. Would you like me to send you one?

Don't worry...I predict he will be a trendsetter and be the epitome of hip & cool. All the kids will copy him.

He is Ellie's idol. if only he had put the shoes on the wrong feet...

It's such a self esteem booster to hear others with the same plight. As mentioned in the other comments.. at least he has shoes right? I was informed by Paisley's nursery teacher that she had come to church without underwear. Mortifying. (see here http://adayinthelifeofthesmiths.blogspot.com/2007/07/pulling-britney.html

It builds character. At least that's what my mom always said.

Plus, now when he's a parent he can say "oh yeah? when I was a kid I had to wear two different shoes...."

Anisa said...

Hey, I'm just impressed he has shoes on at all. My kids are lucky if they get that.

Laurie said...

With my luck, I would have only been able to find two left shoes. Count your blessings.

Sarah Blue said...

That is SO funny! I had my son wear his swim shoes one day, just because we couldn't find anything else. I love the confidence to have him just wear different ones. Fabulous! :)

Adrianne said...

at least he is wearing shoes - hasn't he recently risked frost-bite? I'm home now, so we should talk on the phone. and I promise to get around to blogging soon.

The crazy thing about this shot- really- is that I did the exact same thing with my third a couple of weeks back (and ironically one of them was the white and blue one on the left?!!?)....we were going to Old Navy with my 3 crazies and my oldest's therapist who refused to get out of the car with Drew wearing two obviously mismatched shoes. She said just wearing socks was better. Ha!

Yeah, it is seriously that 4th child that drove me over the edge. I don't know what happened. I am a shadow of my former self. At least I have pictures and video to prove that I WAS a good mother at some point.

they look different sizes, also!
