This is your song...

Each of my kids (and husband) has "their" songs. Here they are (click on the links if you want to see/hear it... okay, I just listened to them all on You Tube...you HAVE to click on them):

Ryan

When were first dating the song "All For You" by Sister Hazel was popular, and in that gooey, exciting, all-you-can-think-about-is-each-other stage, I loved the lyrics that said:

Wonder if I'll always be with you
Words can't say, I can't do
Enough to prove it's all for you

Because I knew that this was going somewhere big, the word "always" gave me the chills (still does!)

Emma

When I pregnant with Emma, and not knowing anything about "mother-love", I wasn't feeling much about this thing growing inside of me. Until one day, about 6 months along, I heard Good Riddance by Green Day on the radio. I felt this big desire for her to "have the time of her life". I knew her life would be unpredictable and I just felt this huge love for her and wanted her to have a happy life no matter what. So that's her song.

Gabe

Gabe's song is "Make you feel my love" by Garth Brooks. What mother doesn't feel this way about her child?

When the rain is blowing in your face
And the whole world is on your case
I could offer you a warm embrace
To make you feel my love

I'd go hungry, I'd go black and blue
I'd go crawling down the avenue
There ain't nothing that I wouldn't do
To make you feel my love

Jane

Celine Dion's A New Day Has Come was on the radio when Jane was born. It's her song to her boy. It was perfect for our little Janey.

Hush, love I see a light in the sky

Oh, it's almost blinding me

I can't believe

I've been touched by an angel with love

Seth

We went to visit the Seeleys in Arizona when I was pregnant with Seth. My mom was playing from their song book collection of the Beatles. I know Beatles songs. I just had never heard "I will". I loved it and I sang it over and over. I now sing it over and over at night when I put Seth to bed. Here he is, joining me.

Who else out there has songs for kids or spouses that they want to share?

That is such a great idea. I am totally blog copying you.

While they were cutting Jane out of my stomach (yes, there is no other way to put it!), Mambo Number Five was blasting on the radio in the operating room. I can't help but think of her birth every time I hear that song.

That was SO cute! I don't think any of my kids have a song. Too bad...no song post for me!

ooooh! Can I blog copy too? That was so fun. Actually, that was sentimental. I'm crying. But, I'm always crying so....

I don't have songs really for individuals, but I do have songs for our various phases in life. When I hear any one of them, it takes me back to exactly what we were doing when. I love it.

Jackson's song is "Beautiful Boy" by John Lennon.

I don't have a song for Thomas- but "Beautiful Boy" works for him too. So that is his song now.

Love that Beatles song, "I Will."

Dan's and my song is "Chances Are" by Bob Seger with Martina McBride. We aren't country fans but the lyrics of this song fit our courtship exactly to a tee.

Fun post!

That is so great. :) The twins' song is Long Road by Pearl Jam. We have a dvd/slideshow of their NICU months and their first year...that song is playing during the NICU pictures and still makes me tear up every single time I watch it.

Jessica,
This, as always was such an awesome post!
When I was pregnant with my oldest, Evan, I was in a convenience store paying for gas and this song by a group that called themselves "Joose" came on. It was a re-make, or better stated an R&B version of the Garth Brooks song entitled "If Tomorrow Never Comes". I, with my pregnancy hormones in full bloom, burst into tears and had to hide out by the motor oil to regain my composure so I could go pay for my gas. The lyrics say, "If tomorrow never comes will she know how much I love her..." I was thinking of my husband and growing baby and that was all she wrote, as they say!
Seriously, I loved this post and I love the pictures and this was such a great idea!

I loved hearing Seth sing "I Will" too :)

So sweet! Each of my kids has their own lullaby (except the twins who share of course...) and I sing it to them every night. My mom did the same for all her kids and to this day I always get a little tingle when I hear "Edelweiss"...cuz that one was mine. Sweet sweet post!

"You're the Love of My Life" by Carly Simon is Ben's song. I had heard it before but I remember listening to the words after I had him and realizing it wasn't about a husband/boyfriend.

a) gorgeous photo of you
b) love this idea of documenting their songs. I have a lullaby for each child, too. Although sometimes I get them mixed up. And they correct me, of course!
c) could that little Seth be any cuter? My uterus kind of hurts after that.

So much fun. I'm planning on copying you on mine too. Although Gabe and Jacob are so close I'm confused as to whose is whose. You'll have to see.

Todd and I have a couple of songs, but one of them is "Here and Now", and we ended up dancing our first dance to it at our reception. Long story... Maybe I will blog about it someday. Now I am going to have to give each of my kids a song so that they are not left out!

Cute post!

That is so sweet and we totally have songs for our family too. For me and the DH we have "Date me" songs. I made him a whole cd and put it in his car blasted way up for Valentine's day a few years back. That was fun. (includes Gettin' Jiggy by Will Smith, Torn by Natalie Umbrulia, My Heart Will go on by Celine).
P.s. I changed my heading for my most recent post- I hope I didn't scare you off by doing a project post (though I for sure am a "project girl").

I love that Celine Dion album. I don't have individual songs either but definitely time-period songs. Cute baby pictures!

We have songs, but they are made up ones that you just can't get out of your head.

That little video clip worked PERFECT! By the end
of the song he was BACK out of bed and bouncing around! Isn't it fun how music weaves into our lives and adds a deeper level?
I have been noticing sweaters on guys over here lately, so Ryan IS on the fashion cutting edge!
I am looking forward to his wardrobe update about Aloha shirts!!! We sell them in our Tropical Tantrum boutique here at the Marriott on Kauai AND the comments made by men when they come in are SO fun/hilarious. Come visit us and buy him one!!!

I have tried to comment a few times but it always kicks me out. I think it might work this time... I love your blog and this post is fantastic! A unique little song that we sing to our 3rd is You're My Little Potato. Love it! Thanks for a great read!

I made up a song for Caleb using the letters of his name...picking something someone else had written would have been so much easier since now I am committed to doing the same for Isaac and any future little ones.

I have never heard "I WILL", gonna have to find myself a copy! So sweet!

Celia's song is "Big Bottom Swing" and Paige's is "Like A Virgin."

Loved that video of little Seth singing "I Will". So sweet. I love that all your kids have a song.

When Mark and I were dating we listened to the song "Laid" by James over and over. I was naive enough to not realize just how hilarious that is. I get it now. In most circles we claim, "Sweetest Thing" by U2 our song . . . 'blue eyed boy meets brown eyed girl.'

For our 10 year anniversary Mark told me that our new song was "You and Me" by Lifehouse. It's a good one.

CUTE POST!

Great idea-- I love that a song can mean so much and bring back so many memories.

We are just researching the practices, we will get serious around next fall, thanks for your help. I'll let you know if you take a trip up that way.

I love that you do stuff like this. I'll have to think about songs for my little ones.

Adrianne said...

being as cool as you would require that I understand and thus actually know the words to songs. I fail at both of those. But GAbe does get "You are my sunshine" before he goes to bed. Modified version, of course, b/c I'm not even sure I know all the "real" words to that one!
