Time Suck #5

The fifth in our series of Why Were the Romneys Gone for a Month? (contest rules here)

Picture 103

(And feel free to notice and comment on the cute sitting up that has taken place this week.  She may be skinny but she’s strong!)

Was I too busy trying to FEED THIS BABY enough calories?  Did I go to the doctor, have him tell me she was falling down the growth chart, and have him suggest I add a feeding and wait and see what happens at 6 months?  Did I know exactly what will happen at 6 months (because it’s happened with all my kids): she’ll be in the 5th percentile or less?  Have I been:

  • taking her to weekly weight checks?
  • visiting 4 lactation consultants who helped me figure out the I was producing 2 oz per feeding?
  • spending a week doing 1 hour feedings with the SNS system?
  • pumping after every feeding?
  • taking fenugreek till Ryan notices that I smell like maple syrup?
  • waking up my sleeping-from-8pm-to-8am baby at 5 am every morning to give her an extra feeding?
  • taking Blessed Thistle, eating bowls of oatmeal and drinking 100 oz of water every day?

Since the answer is yes to all of those questions…what do you think?  Is this THE time suck that shut down the blog?

I used the SNS system with all my kids.

It is a big fat pain in the butt!!

Oh Faith is so cute. And you are WAY more dedicated to the breastfeeding than I every was. So how is it going now?

Laura and Faith should totally hang out. They can start a fifth percentile and lower clique. Meetings will be held at the doctor's office when they are going in for another weight check (Laura has one next week).

Faith is adorable. I get it Time SUCK! Hope things gets better soon. I have been there/done that & remember feeling like I was a cow.

Wow, I cannot believe you did all of that in the name of breast feeding! I would have said, THANKS, I'll start using bottles! (that is coming from someone who is nursing their 4th baby-- for the first time) You are amazo-mom!~

That sucks! (It had to be said.)

I'm not sure what I'd do with such a skinny baby, except probably launch her into the ceiling just trying to pick her up. She's cute enough to be worth all the hassle.

If there was an award for the most dedicated breastfeeder E V E R! It would go to you hands down. You are amazing what else is there to say....oh yes...Faith is adorable and worth all the "Time Sucking" she caused.

My little one didn't drop way off the chart until 9 months, so I never had to do SNS. You are very dedicated.
I vote definintely for #s 4 and 5. Are there more choices to come?

Well, I'll say this. I don't think you could have mmade all that up.

Or you're one creative chick.

BEEN THERE! SNS is a HUGE time suck (pun definitely intended), not to mention the other time suck that immediately follows...pumping. I applaud you for doing this with everything else you have to do.

And tiny or not, she's adorable!

Faith is absolutely GORGEOUS! I may have mentioned that one or two times before.

I vote for Time Suck #5...even though you won't give me Faith. Read that with a disgruntled tone.

You deserve a medal for your dedication. Read that with a sincere tone.

Now that is one adorable babe. Love the sitting up.

Oooohhh...I feel your pain. SNS? Sucks? Waking them up to add in the extra feeding? Sucks. Stressing out constantly because you're worried that they are not growing well enough because YOU are somehow not producing enough milk? Way sucks.

Hoping you've seen some positive results (in the form of increased supply and a little extra padding on li'l Miss Faith)!

I keep thinking it's CHOCOLATE but you haven't mentioned it yet!

She's adorable by the way!

Oh, boy. I'm exhausted reading that list. Things are better now though, right? Right?? I hope.

Someone has been busy sucking. Sorry I couldn't resist.

Good job mom. I was a big time La Leche League member. I held monthly meetings at my house. Hang in there girl.

If I knew you weren't doing your Biggest Loser contest (and trying to kick Ryan's rear) I'd send you the biggest King Size MILKY Way candy bar I could find. Cause you are sure no MILK Dud! Seriously, get this girl a prize, somebody!

Faith is so darling! I think she looks like Jane. I bet Jane likes that!

I just spent 10 perfectly enjoyable minutes surfing your blog (loved the grey hair post - I suffer the same thing). You have such a darling family. I am impressed that you blog at all! I know you are amazingly busy and overwhelmed. And you are cute. very very cute.

Take alfalfa. All of the other stuff never worked for me but eating as the cows sure did. Way to stay dedicated! That is beyond admirable.

i'm totally with laurie - what to DO with such a skinny little baby?!?
(i vote this time suck, too.)

seriously - what is wrong with formula? of course it was that baby. so are you back for good now? we missed you.

Can I just say this sounds exactly like me! Nice to know someone else doesn't have gallons of milk...I feel somewhat normal. I have just come to accept it and even changed doctors when they were so "concerned" about the babies weight...they grow, just not as fast as some! Sorry it has been a pain for you.

Wow, Faith is having weight problems. That's surprising. Ha,ha. Okay, I know we've had this discussion many times, but I'm not sure being on the other end is that much fun either. Kea has dropped from the 95% to the 90% for BMI though. It means she's still in the obese category, but seriously, does the kid look the least bit obese?! You are a great mom!
