Su-Monday Summary

(Phew! Raise your hands if you are happy not to see my big old feet every time you pull up our blog. Not a good time to miss a few days posting!)

Events of last week include:
Ryan being out of town all week
Which is weird, considering his job has been discontinued...they apparently still need him to go to conferences to see if their product is compatible with others? Despite arriving 9 minutes before his flight left, he was able to make it home for the second of:
Ryan's 5 birthday parties
That guy is such a prima donna. Party #1 happened in California with his parents and my dad and step-mom. Party #2:

involved me and the kids (and his favorite breakfast--for dinner--Caramel Peach French Toast (go to the link and add peach pie filling instead of apple pie filling), hashbrowns, bacon and fruit).
Party #3:

involved me and Ryan and Brian Regan, the comedian. We'd gotten tickets for the 29th and had a great time!

Party #4:

involved me and the kids and Ryan and a few families we are close to...and Chocolate Cheesecake, Lemon Meringue Pie and Cherry Pie.
Party #5:

involved the famous Daines and some yellow cake with chocolate frosting (I was done with fancy desserts by this point).
He got some socks (kids), a suit (Mom), a gift card (my mom), some workout clothes and a hose (my dad and Genie), a book (Daines) and this lovely shirt (the Albrechts--who have a thing for Ryan's biceps).

I got him nothing, because he forbade gift-buying until he's actually employed again. What a baby.
The Blue and Gold Cub Scout Banquet
Which I would not recommend attending withOUT your husband and WITH your 4 horribly, unruly kids, as it is impossible to navigate the potluck (woo hoo!), the CubCakes, the tempting-to-run-wild-through-hallways, and cups of water without serious disasters and wanting to KILL your children.

Here is the CubCake that won, courtesy of this same neighbor. Look closely for the rat droppings.

Emma's Third Basketball game
They might not ever come within 10 points of the opponent, but they sure are cute. And Emma's loving it!

A VERY crazy Sunday
that included Emma fasting THE FULL TIME, (and falling asleep on the floor from exhaustion (no joke!)), a YUMMY dinner at the Proudfoots, Ryan's new calling as Ward Clerk, and Seth's second degree burn from an iron turned on by un-named siblings (bawled for hours...awful! Today it's blistered into a 1 inch bubble on his hand and he just came downstairs telling me "Hey Mom, look! I got a ball!")

The End!

Thanks for the mention in the weekly update. I'm feeling good about myself now.

Five birthday parties? Really, Ryan. I thought you were all about economy. Good to know the truth is out.

I can SO relate to the cub cake and cub pack meetings without your husband fiasco. Most meetings it is just me and the kids since my husband has church meetings that night.

So, I have gotten debatably good at arm rolling the three year old and evil-eyeing the other three into compliance. But, I never feel relaxed when it's over...so sad. Last year I had to "help" my kids make a cake for a cub scout event and despite feeling like a complete failure when "we" got it there (barely got it there since the little one bumped me on the way in) ...somehow I won "most delicious-looking cake". Which is crazy! But, hey...I won a prize anyway.

Ahhh yes. Blue and Gold. I think we all experienced that joy this weekend. Pure torture.

I LOVE Brian Regan. He is hilarious. He came here but it was on a Sunday. Boo hoo...I guess my salvation isn't worth a good laugh!

Hey I got your comment I don't have your email address so you'll have to send it to me. I don't know why men have such a hard time?? Good to hear your life is still crazy? Are you guys considering moving back at all?

Those cakes look amazing, how I wish I could have come to that party. So sad to hear that he was gone all week, man that sucks.

at first glance, that rat cake completely freaked me out. i thought "HOLY CRAP! THERE ARE RATS ON THAT CAKE!"
true, there were rats on the cake. but they were FAKE.

dumb blonde.

My 5 year old saw the rat cake and said "Sweet! Can you make that for my birthday?!"

Looks like we may be giving out rat droppings as party favors!

I am repulsed by, and impressed with the winning CubCake. Did you eat some, or was it too vile looking seeing those rubber rats up close?

You deserve an award...not only braving the Blue and Gold Banquet but being in charge at it, AND being husband-less. You are amazing. :)

Since we are shelling out big bucks to the Orkin man to rid ourselves of the forest mice, I think I would have run away screaming if I saw that rat cake.

Way to go Emma for fasting! Does she not know there is a child exemption in that fast rule? I'm so impressed.

Sounds like a Par-Tay!!! I wish I could have been at one of the five parties to celebrate with the birthday boy (okay, and maybe to also try some of those yummy desserts). Love ya'll. Hope Seth's hand is healing quickly.

You guys party way too much for me!

Ryan must have been feeling lucky--he wore a "sweater" out to see the comedian. Hope it wasn't too itchy.

Thanks for tempting us with all the sweets and for the recipes so we can do more than drool over them.

Happy bday ryan. That's all I have to give.

My husband was out of town all week.

We went to Brian Regan last night. (shh, yes, it was Sunday)

I have a stepmom too (though it's a new development and I haven't met her yet).

I'm just saying.

All you young, talented, energetic, creative women exhaust me! My boys were quite impressed by the rat cake, (I called them up to see it) I don't have the skills. Sad face.

I was seriously going to mention that! (About seeing feet every time I clicked on your blog) Was Brian Reagan great? Peter and I were going to go, but thought the tickets were a little $$$. Was it worth it?

Love Brian Regan, I am so jealous you guys saw him in person! I only listen to him on C.D. Happy Birthday again Ryan!

I have to comment on Emma fasting:

On Sunday, during Primary, Emma just didn't seem herself. She didn't really sing much, which is SO unlike her. I kept looking at her wondering what was wrong. Even someone else said, "What's wrong with Emma?" After Primary was over, I saw her in the hall with her head down on a table. I asked her if she was ok, she told me that she just didn't feel very good. Little did I know that she had been fasting the WHOLE time. That is so sweet. Every fast Sunday I think about your family fasting for us and it makes me teary. What a great job you guys are doing...

Oh, and Happy Birthday Ryan. Sounds like you guys had a blast!

Yeah, my son wanted to fast and I told him no. Am I a horrible mother? I knew he'd only be whining and complaining. Plus, he's ten. I'm not sure he's QUITE there yet, especially given that church is from 1-4. He'd be a mess before noon.

I love the rat cake. Classic.

I'm so sorry about the burn! OUCH! Hope he's all healed up. Happy Birthday Ryan...we were going to throw you a party but...hahaha!

Oh, poor guy with the iron blister!! I always worry about stuff like that happening--but hard to keep on top of it with other 'helpers' around. Glad your hubby got to celebrate his birthday so many times--usually it's the OPPOSITE as you get older! Oh, and that CUB CAKE was VERY creative! =)

Hollyween said...

Love the cake!!

Do you know what I think? Your husband is totally lucky to have YOU for his wife. You make stuff like caramel peach french toast? Mine gets a store bought cake. I'm awesome that way. I hope Ryan knows how totally awesome you are. You remind us all the time so hopefully he gets reminded too.

I had lots of witty rejoinders, but they all FLED from my brain when I read about Seth's burn. boooo hooooo! Oh, I live in fear of the iron or boiling water causing burns. Poor you! How did you not totally lose control of your faculties????

We're at a standstill with the job, too and it SUCKS. I'll pray for you if you pray for me. Kind of like a swap. Or a chain letter.

Laurie said...

How'd you get Ryan into the sweater for the show?

jessica said...

Correction...Aric is obsessed with Ryan's biceps but only because he's jealous!! Which is why he is now going liftin with Ryan at the crack of dawn to learn his secrets.

Lorena said...

Oh, Ryan totally fits in with the birthday festivities that we usually have at our house!

I did the Blue and Gold Banquet with 4 unruly kids. One of my friends came and sat with me. Not my best Mom moment.

Good job, Emma...sad Seth...I think we need a documentation of the hand.

Have a mentioned that your Sunday summaries are my favorite?

Gotta try that recipe . . .

We had Blue and Gold also . . . and I can't complain about it since I am the primary president.

Ryan in a sweater? You'd think it was your bday.

Is it true that children behave poorly at churches all over the world, and not just in Argentina? Because sometimes I delude myself into thinking that if I were in Zion kids wearing skate-shoes to church on Sunday and running down the hall screaming their heads off wouldn't happen...
