Blogging News

1. I had to add those dumb letter verifications on the bottom of my comment page, because I was getting tons of spam. Sorry. Is there any other way to deal with it? Are you commenting less (horrors!) because I did that (Paige!)?

2. If I don't know you, and you leave a comment (yay!), I will always click on your name to see if I can find your blog. I love to know who reads, and where they came from. If I come to the page that says this:

Profile Not Available

The Blogger Profile you requested cannot be displayed. Many Blogger users have not yet elected to publicly share their Profile. If you're a Blogger user, we encourage you to enable access to your Profile.

then I cannot visit you (Alison from Connecticut) which makes me sad. Do people do this for safety reasons or just out of ignorance?

3. I now have TOTAL celestial justification for this lovely hobby:

Isn't that the best?! I went around all day in the best mood when I finished it and sent it off. It was wonderful in real life. I have NEVER journaled (no one leaves comments in those!) or scrapbooked (hate projects) and besides random notebooks here and there and a big pile of pictures in my basement, we had little tangible memories of our happy little life. (It was surprisingly affordable. I got 66 pages, hardcover, for about $45 after tax and shipping.)

Do you know how thrilling it is to have this book filled with quotes, and pictures, and recipes, and travel logs, and musings sitting on my living room shelf?! (You can...by checking out http://www.blurb.com/. Feel free to email me, or leave comments, with any questions of how it works. )

Cool, I checked out blurb, and it's great. I'm in the process of doing our trip to wyoming on it. I love it.

I am a blurker on your blog and I love the book of your blog!!! Did you do a years worth? I'm waiting until I get a full year of my blog - then I want to do the exact same thing.

Now your kids will have SOMETHING to remember you by.

I love love the blog book. I have been looking for something like that. Was it hard to transfer the posts and pictures over?

I am so excited about your blurb book!! You better bring it to blogapalooza...I'm serious. Denae too. Don't worry about the word verification. I'll still comment.

I downloaded the software a month ago and have been slowly working on mine. So excited we can do this.

I do have one question...it looks like there might be white space next to my pictures when I add them in. Does your book have any funny errors like that? Or is that just the way the software looks?

That is sooo cool! I have seen some made books kind of like that at shutterfly.com

Ignorance, ignorance! I fixed it (ok, my husband fixed it because I'm not friends with my computer.)
-Alison, who is not so bright in Connecticut

Ohhhhhh, I want to look at that! Hey, next time you come for Piano lessons (I have no idea what day that is) keep driving to my house, and bring the book! I will show you my My Publisher Books (which I adore) But maybe I will have to cross over??? Please do! I would love to see it!

Nice.

And not to point fingers, but Paige and Celia don't comment on mine as much since I put up word verification.... Losers. AND I even took it off now, but they just assume it's still there.... even bigger losers. ;)

And you only have to have it on for a little bit, then the spammers go somewhere else instead.

I can't wait to publish mine. The only thing that makes me sad now is that I waited so long to do this. I totally missed out with Aidan - but I don't even know if technology was there yet. I want to see how your book turned out. Sounds lots of fun.

I am all about doing a Blurb book - I am just waiting until I have more posts since I have only been blogging about 6 months.

Long time reader, first time comment. Love your blog! I love that your husband chimes in from time to time and I have shared the barf training video with many of my friends who have small children. Thanks!!

Jessica,
I would comment on your blog even if I had to donate blood to do so, and I am sure Paige feels the same way ;)

I have so many questions about this...

I will have to go to your e-mail, I guess...

It looks fabulous!

Very cool!
Are 66 pages the equivalent to 66 posts? How does it compute?
Do you publish EVERY post? I can really see this adding up cost wise but SUCH a cool idea.

Jake said...

Oh yeah! I am totally getting a blurb book. Maybe several volumes!

I cannot WAIT to start mine. Every time I see someone get theirs it makes me so excited!!

Celia Fae said...

How am I supposed to blog AND do a book? Were you married to your computer?

Guess I better go over to Caroline's now. She has feelings.

Paige said...

FANTASTIC! I'm so excited for your book. Please bring it to blogapalooza. I need to know how many entries you included. Denae said only do 100 at a time but I'm up to 250 and it's not even a year until June!

I've never gotten weird porn. But those tags do bug me. However, of course I still comment, on you and everyone else, Caroline. Try and keep me away.

Love it! Doesn't blogging kill about a half-dozen hard-to-kill birds with one stone (journaling, scrap-booking, family history, missionary work, etc., etc.)I'll sleep better tonight knowing I'm doing my "due diligence" (another term Cade loathes!)every time I publish a new post. Aaahhh!!!

Does the blurping work on comments?

I'm soooooo doing blurb - I've been waiting until I can get a really good book size. You said you did 66 pages - was that a year's worth of blogging? How many entries did you upload?

TexasTwinsTwice said...

Once I found out about the blurb books, I REALLY got into blogging. I feel it accomplishes so many things at once. When you factor in THE TIME & SUPPLIES of scrapbooking alone--it's a STEAL! (I still do scrapbooks for my kiddos tho). I too would love to hear more details about your book: does it print comments? how many posts did it include to = 66 pages? how long does it take to format it/get it ready for print? You are always a wealth of knowledge--so keep it comin'! =) (oh, and back when i had my blog set to 'profile not available' i did it on purpose so it wasn't crawled by internet search engines.)

D-dawg said...

Yay! You did it and it looks great. I love mine and will be starting another one in a month or so. Posts add up fast. Good job!

crystal said...

When I have the mental energy (i hate projects, too--why is that???), I'm totally going to do one of these! It's beautiful! I'm jealous.

Hazen5 said...

Love Blurb!! I am trying to finish my o7' book. Yours looks fabulous!

Adrianne said...

I love this - I've been wondering how to do this. Seems so much easier than printing out all those digital photos and getting them into some kind of album... plus then my posterity will have all my opinions, typos, misspellings, etc. as welll!

Lorena said...

I'm so totally jealous...but at least now you know what to get me for my birthday...June

Ilene said...

Ha, I remember blogging about Blurb.com last June. I downloaded the software and then promptly began procrastinating. When I get to Boise and have no friends I may get around to putting something together.

I plan to sell copies. If you are interested it will be $59.99. I am taking pre-oders. The list is quite long, I assure you. Harry Potter will have nothing on Green Bean Ruminations Vol. I.

Awesome!!!!! I want to make a book so bad too. I tried and it said I need to update my blog?? Do you know what that means? I am dying to do a book because it is a great journal/book keepsake!!
Good job!

Bridget said...

Yeah! Good for you! Maybe I'll do that for my one year blog-o-versary.

Question...(Dwight K. Shrute) Just kidding. I really do have a question. Was the spam coming in on your blog comments section or on your email? I have been getting a ton on my email. Is this why?

Anisa said...

Cool. thanks for that info. I was thinking I should do something like that. I do scrapbook, but I don't journal much on my pages, so this will help me with that aspect!

Christie said...

I've been working on my Blurb book and I find that it's REALLY slow to make any changes to the layouts or text. Unearthly slow. Slow enough that I have a hard time getting back to it. Did you find that it was slow on your computer? Maybe I need to try it on our other machine and see. I want my book though!

Hollyween said...

I need to make a book. I think that would be sooo awesome to have!

I will always comment on your blog even if you have the annoying word verification thingy. Spam sucks.
I agree that the whole "blog profile not available" thing is so annoying. It drives me crazy when I can't visit people back.

zeeny said...

That is sooo cool. I just recently overheard someone talking about a company that publishes blogs, now I want to do it! So excited...thanks!

brooke romney said...

How cool. I love the book Was it easy? I'm dying to do the same. Love your weekly update!

Anonymous said...

I need to print mine out. It's in the works, but it takes time, which is in short supply at the moment!

Anyway, I had to do the same thing because of spam. I didn't want to because ˆ had the word verification thing, but you got to do what you got to do!

PS... Alison is my friend out here. Small blogging world!

Mique (as in Mickey) said...

Couldn't remember if I replied on this one or not? But with 40 comments already, do you still keep reading? Maybe I should whine a little bit for non-commenting and see what happens (jk of course). I have the word verification thing to for the same reason. It stinks. But I had huge issues with spammers.
I want a blurb book too...makes all this journaling worthwhile (the new friends are an added bonus too).
