Sunday Summary

Stuff that happened this week include:

Ryan put in the car stereo. I forgot to include this last week...and since the car stereo got stolen LAST CONFERENCE (hello! 4 months ago), it's a pretty big deal. Yay for Radio Disney and NPR while driving. (Although I will miss actually conversing with my clients while I taxi them around).

(Oh yeah, on a related note, while out with the missionaries, Ryan visited with a town policeman. He realized that we were the ones who had the Decorated Minivan stolen in October and told Ryan he'd seen that van driving around that night and wished he'd stopped it. Happily, though, he let us know that the guys were caught and are in jail currently. Nice to know.)

Janey was sick last week at church. I'm only including this one because of what her teachers said. Having warned them that she might be under the weather, after church they said, "We knew she was sick, because she didn't move AT ALL. And Jane usually wiggles the entire time." We should try to expose her to some bug every Friday night...it might make church much more pleasant.

Seth kept telling us all the stuff he was good at. All week long, we kept getting updates: "Mom, I'm good sing-oh", "Mom, I'm good cean-oh" (cleaner--ha.), "Mom, I'm good help-oh." So, he'll just let you know, should he excel at anything else.

We could see the grass in our backyard. Oh, you might not think that that is noteworthy, but all my Inland Northwest blog friends will vouch for me...we have not seen the ground (AS IT HAS BEEN COMPLETELY COVERED WITH FEET OF SNOW) since the day after Christmas. We feel like we should be wearing shorts, as it has risen to the balmy temperatures of 39 and 42 this weekend.

The Party-that-could-not-be-more-girly. My friend, Bethany, decided to have a Wedding Picture and Video party. So we all brought ours and enjoyed everyone's permy hair and skinny husbands and cheaply made videos (except Bethany's...show-off). We had wedding cake (cut here by our Life Partners, Meghann and Stacey), lots of yummy food and went home loving our husbands a little bit more.

Kids Dentist visit. Number one, I would like to refer you to the note-taking that I did, during the dental visit. Ryan was very pleased with the thorough nature of my report.

Number two, our kids have messed up teeth. Emma's completely missing one tooth (don't even think I could remember the special dental name for the tooth...oh wait, I'll just look at my notes! Lateral incisor, that's what's missing. That really came in handy.) and two of Gabe's teeth are re-sorbing (which I discovered is a nice word for rotting...which explains his hideous breath). The dentist assured me that I am not one of Those Parents who don't properly care for their children's oral hygiene, that it's from a trauma to the area. (And I didn't cause the trauma either, because I'm not one of Those Parents, either. Sheesh.) Jane's teeth are far too tight for her full set of adult teeth to come in and Seth has a Baaaad overbite. I'm currently taking donations for their orthodontia. Please comment and I will email you a tax-deductible donation slip. Grandparents...since they have your genes...I'm expecting the largest portion from you all. Thank you. (Dental procedures, as demonstrated below...don't come cheap.)

I HATE the dentist. We are over-due. I'm putting it off.

I think that is the FUNNEST idea for a party. But I have THE WORST wedding pictures and I'm still better after 13 years, so I would have to abstain from said party.

My sympathies on the dental outlook. I am the person in our house contributing the bad dental genes (Greg didn't have cavities OR braces). Greg has mentioned more than once that he should have asked for a dental dowry from my parents before we got married.

p.s. Tell Seth that you're a good blogg-oh. :)

That was another great "week in review" post.

You did a commendable job note-taking about the dental visit. Maybe, you should take your camcorder for future visits, to save yourself from suffering writer's cramp :)

I loved Annie's comment! I agree, you should tell Seth that you are a good Blogg-oh! :)

Yeah, my foursome visit the dentist tomorrow. Besides the torture that is taking them all by myself, the fact that 3/4 of my children will be visiting the orthodontist this year makes me want to vomit and crawl into a hole.

Why is it that when we were kids we just lived with our nasty teeth, but now everyone goes to the orthodontist?

Sorry, I am not willing to donate, but it sounds like I should start saving up now for my kids!

My girlfriends and I have talked about having a wedding party. After seeing the pictures in action, I think I'll just HAVE to do it. What fun!
And boo hoo for rotting teeth. I want dentures myself.

Smart to take notes at the dentist--i can never remember anything.

Ya for grass, balmy weather, new radio, healthy and smart children and fun girly parties.

Have a great week.

By next week, we will have spent $1,000 to the dentist. If he wasn't a mormon chap, I would wonder if he was honest. But being that he's a good guy...I guess I'll pay. grr... I would contribute if I had any to spare...sorry I'll pay for their grandparents to come through.

I'm with Rochelle. My wedding pics are horrible. I would come to the party for the cake though!

What a dutiful wife you are with the note taking. No repeat incidents like at the optometrist right?

What a great idea for a party. We kindof did that the other night with 2 girls pics from their wedding and it was fun!

I am seriously scared of the dentist. I have to get myself mentally ready before I can make an appointment to go. I always have cavities! I am putting it off as we speak. Maybe next month.

Next time you notice that I have a deer-caught-in-the-headlights expression on my face, please crop me out. Or I can send you a picture from my wedding album to cut and paste it on my face.

I think I gained five pounds at that party.

I'm taking donations for my husband's imminent jaw surgery and orthodontia work so if you have any surplus, please send it my way.

I totally want to have a party like that. You are always doing something so fun!

How exciting that you can actually see a patch of grass in your yard!!! I am really quite jealous. All I see when I look out my dismal window into the backyard, is the picnic table. The pinic table exists in the winter, soley for the purpose of reminding me how many inches of snow we've received. The snow is stacked high and proud on top of the table and isn't in any hurry to leave.

Jessica,
Maybe you can find a wonderful dentist who will hire you part time, and then his orthodontic friends will give you a professional discount. That's where all the beautiful smiles in our family came from. :-) :) :)

One more thing: I am simply THRILLED that you have a new car radio. Now you can drown out their crying, whimpering, pleading, complaining, shouting, yelling, and so forth. Aren't I a wonderful mother? I just have the best parenting advice. My volume nob to the car radio has oft times kept me from going completely balistic.

I hate going to the dentist, the kids are fine, but being prego with them has ruined my teeth. I know we are looking forward to braces with all the boys and have decided to play stupid and not think about it until then. Love the party idea, so cute.

You know my feelings about kids and the dentist. I feel like a complete loser mom every time I go.

And I think Rochelle, Bridget and I could have a BAD WEDDING PHOTO party. Mine are atrocious and our video was deleted by my father (at the wedding breakfast...) My perm was pretty cute though.

Oh, I am so stealing your wedding party idea. I can't wait to steal and blog about it. I'm a good steal-oh.

The dentist and kids just plain sucks. My daughter is also missing a tooth - but I'm not diligent enough to remember which one it is.

i can't find your email address. noe has an appt in your area on the 22nd. send me your email again, we'll hook it up.

Oh dental woes...I'm so sorry for your kids and you. Good luck on those donations. I thought your note take was extremely wise and Ryan couldn't ask for more...but will anyway, right? Husbands...(insert head shaking)

love that wedding party idea. I'd have to borrow someone else's photos if i were to ever go to something like that. TOO EMBARRASSING!

I'm surprised at all the kids who hate the dentist. Mine love, love, love the dentist. Jacob even counts down each day before the visit for like a month (a dental advent?).

Maybe it's just because they really like our pediatric dentist (flat screens on the ceiling and a treasure chest, plus he's cute shh, don't tell Dan) and have had no real problems . . . yet.

I can make a recommendation for you. Dr. Damon, near the Valley Hospital. He is the best.

The current Dr. Damon is the son of the Dr. Damon who did my teeth. I would happily provide you before and after photos to show their magic!

Trust me I know what I am saying. I was in braces/headgear/retainers/etc from 4th grade to 9th grade - yes my teeth were THAT bad... LOL

So call Dr. Damon's office and make appointments for all the kids :) you know, they don't charge until they are actually ready to do the braces...

Fortunatley John's teeth are pretty good and while he could have had braces for strictly cosmetic reasons we chose to let him have a slightly imperfect smile with character.

So sorry about the teeth, we had that problem with Madisen her front tooth rotted. It was really sad and it cost us a small fortune. The dentist also informed me that she will need braces. Why is it so expensive to make my kids teeth look good?

Erin said...

Yes, why do children now start going to the orthodontist at the age of...five? I swear we didn't visit that money hole until I was well into junior high. Some sort of trickery designed to make us well-meaning and guilt-riddled parents much much poorer at a much earlier age. Argh.

We had a wedding picture party at work one night! So fun. Next time, you may wish to consider having a prom party. Everyone brings their prom picture AND (drumroll please) does their very best to recapture their prom hair! It was hilarious. Bring on the baby's breath. Also, prize goes to the best recreation.

Levi'd going to the dentist the first week of March... I'm convinced I'm going to have a life filled with expense given both John and my history of horribly crooked teeth. Poor child.

Funny about the van. Good thing the losers are in jail now.

I'm sorry about your dentist/future orthodontist bill, but I think it's funny that you said the grandparents should pay for most of it since a lot of it is from their genes. SOOO FUNNY!!!

I feel the need to stand up for myself here. The wedding party idea was kindly provided by Ilene (who had an equally lovely wedding video) and I quickly snatched it up seeing as how my creative genius never fully matured. I'm a good copier-oh. So, since the idea was not my own, the party could not be considered an opportunity to "show- off" as accused.

Decorating for the party, I made an attempt at a reception look - nice table with tablecloth (not ironed- I never was a bridezilla), candle, bridal picture on the easel and even my original guestbook. Did anyone notice the faint strains of Canon in D playing in the background? These lovely details came about after a chilly hunt through boxes in our garage. I did put up several pictures of my wedding throughout the house (remember the newlywed years when ALL the pictures in your house were from your wedding?), which might've been a little over the top, but truly it was for the sake of the party.

One final line of defense: I got married only six years ago (time is still on my side) and it was in Utah, land of the wedding-video-home-business-in-everyone's-basement. There are so many videographers that they pretty much film everyone around the temples now and try to sell it to you afterwards. Kind of like a cruise video. Magical.

So.... This is what happens when you don't blog everyday. But, at least there seems to never be a dull moment in the life of a Romney. Hopefully, that comes with having 4 kids.

Sorry about the dental issues - we're not to that point yet, but we probably will be someday seeing how both Mike and I had braces.

The Wedding Party was fun. I wish I could've found my pictures. Did you tell Ryan I thought you both looked the same after all your years of marriage? Good marriage or good genes - maybe both.

Good job on note taking. I always ask the dr. to write it down for me because I don't totally understand what he's saying, but then I can't read it.

Bring your kids to Argentina, dental procedures are significantly less here.

Celia Fae said...

See. This is why I keep telling Ellie's husband Mark that he's going to be rich. They reap every penny, those dentists. And we're at their mercy.

Let me know if you get any donations. I've got another set of braces coming up.

Celia Fae said...

Oh yeah, I'm totally doing that party. Great idea.

I am such a stickler for white teeth and straight teeth, never really thought about it growing up, but now am obsessed with it. I just look at teeth when I meet people or talk to them and there are many deficiencies out there lemme tell ya. What are the odds that all the kids need dental work....I hear Mexico has great deals on dental work?! But Argentina has some steals as well so I think that should justify the plane tickets!

Amber said...

Dental work is something that all parents need to know about before having kids. No one warns you.
