To infinity and beyond

I totally dig science-fiction.

Not Star Trek science fiction (a little too nerdy, and gadget filled for me),

but more

Orson Scott Card,

The Giver

and Gattaca

science fiction.

Ryan is a big fan and I’ve realized I am, too.

And mostly, I think it’s either you love it or you don’t.

I love future-istic,

apocalyptic:

utopian society stuff.

I like the What If and Could It Happen of it all.

I love Time Travel (because what would be cooler than that?)

I love the way this genre examines human nature and ethics and morals

by making humans more able and powerful.

I love the escapism of it all.

My dad doesn’t.  My friend who read The Road,

recently, doesn’t.

Which camp are you in?

Not really my thing. Well, I'd probably like it more if it didn't cut into my Sally's Spa time.

The Time Traveler's Wife is coming out as a movie-I can't wait!

I like science fiction but historical fiction is my favorite!

I've only read a couple of those books/seen the movies, but I do like that kind of stuff. I need to get reading some more.

Um, TOTAL SciFi Dork. The whole Ender's series is so good. I read it every year.

Truthfully on the fence. I think I just lack the imagination required, although I loved time travelers wife (once I tried reading it for the second time) and still really want to read the orson scott card books.

I love some and hate some, sorry. I love it enough to keep reading it as a genre, but am sometimes disappointed. I dig fantasy however, but give me a good Anny Perry mystery or some historical fiction and I'm in heaven.

So not into it. I like chic lit and other stuff that I don't have to be actively using my brain. I know, probably a big waste of time, but which is better? Reading absolutely nothing at all or reading chic lit?

Hmmm. Loved the movie Gattaca and liked Minority Report, again as a movie. Read Ender's Game and thought it was okay. Probably should read the Time Traveler's Wife because I love time travel. Just thinking about time travel makes me want to get a smallpox vaccination, because, hello, I wouldn't be immune if I time-traveled backward.

I guess I like the genre well enough, but really just like good books, whatever the genre.

I love all OS Card's what ifs: Alvin Maker series, Enchantment...but I realize I like it history-based. I don't like futurism. Pastwatch has both so that works for me.
I am a Trekkie, but may be more so because my dad is.
Although I liked The Giver I found it troubling.
I loved the movie Gattica.

I've always been somewhat of a scifi fan since that is what my dad loved. I grew up on Star Trek and Star Wars movies.

I'm a more recent convert to the books. (Although my husband LOVES Orsan Scott Card). Enchantment was great and so was The Host by Stephenie Meyer. I still need to read Ender's Game... one of these days.

Look at you two posts in a couple days! Your getting back in your groove already.

I think I like Sci-fi more than I admit. The Hunger Games had me riveted...

I like, as you described it, apocalyptic...for the exact reasons you described. The, "What If" and "Could It Happen" usually helps me to be grateful for the blessings I enjoy right now, and (this is gonna sound corny) inspires me to get my food storage in order.

I know, I'm hopeless. What dorky reasons to get into emergency preparedness.

I'm in your camp of course. OSC is awesome. I like his stuff because it isn't all spaceships and futuristic gadgets. His characters are awesome and his story telling even more amazing.

I loved Time Travelrs' wife, but other then that I am not a sci fi fan. Couldn't even read Harry Potter....I know what is wrong with me?? I even struggled with the Twilight series, cause my practicle brain kept telling me this really couldn't happen, so stop getting obsessed with this teenage love affair.

nice to see pictures of the beautiful inland northwest. i smell the pine trees. i hear the carousel and spokane falls. also nice to meet the author of the quote in real simple. i read that a few months back and immediately felt better about my 1977 house, single car and kids' hand-me-down clothes. if that's what's w/in one's means so be it. i hope you have a great day!

I am time period all the way!
LOVE a happy ending and read nutrition
books over sci-fi... Time travel is interesting
tho and actually did finish the vampire Edward
Bella saga, so proud of myself, so I can relate
to my kids! Jesse even read it after Jenna and Jax
took him to the movie. It will help him relate!!

Love the same type of sci-fi you suggest, not fantasy/trekky but apocolyptic-what-if. I've read most of the books you listed although I didn't really care for Time Traveler's Wife too much, LOVED Ender's Game and all of OSC, was very intrigued by The Road and thik it's a somewhat realistic possibility. And how about Ayn Rand's Anthem or Gerald Lund's The Alliance? But more than any specific genre I like the what-if/what-would-I-do ethical discussion of books like that. Books that take an idea or situation where you may say at the outset, "Oh, I would never/always do that." and then turn your opinion upside-down and inside out before it's over. That's what I love!

I love sci-fi too. I am a little embarrassed to admit that I love Star Trek too :)

I'm not ashamed to admit I'm a trekkie. Read Ender's game 3 times--it got better each reading.
I've been a pathetic blogger because I'm writing a near-future book! I can't believe I've just gone public with that.
