Sunday Summary

Monday was an important day in the Romney house. Celebration of great Presidents? Nah. Parties due to a day off from school. Boring. Mom getting out the play-doh? Oh yeah...it was that big.
Tuesday also an important day: Jane's kindergarten shots. She was seriously so brave. She kept mentioning all morning, "I'm a little scared, but it will be fast, wight, Mom?" When we got there and she was trying so hard to lay still on the exam table, I held her hands and told her it would be done by the time I was done singing the alphabet song. Except I couldn't sing the alphabet song, because I was crying. She was such a brave girl and those shots seriously suck. We NEVER buy our kids toys except on birthdays, Christmas...and when they get those sucky kindergarten shots:
On Wednesday after teaching a bunch of Cub Scouts how to cook Fried Rice and Wontons, I was a little over the whole cooking dinner thing. So we had leftover night. Sometimes we have FUN leftover night, when I make a menu:
and let the kids pick three options. We had lots of leftovers (because I love to cook and Ryan loves to eat old, moldy food):
and the kids LOVE when we do Restaurant Style leftovers (especially when it includes your choice of dessert, as this one did).
On Thursday I woke up WAY too early to work out, as was evidenced by me running into the garage as I was backing out and wrecking our side mirror. Apparently there were some important wires connected to this mirror, because as I shut the door (at 6:30am) after my workout, the hazard horn-beeping started going off. "Huh, " I thought, "must have brushed the hazard button on my key chain." And turned it off. Gabe had a 7:00 am cavity filling appointment, so after a quick shower, we jumped back in the car...and discovered that if I wanted to drive the car...I would have to do it with the horn blaring loudly wherever I went. It would NOT shut off! So we drove through the streets of my town, horn a-honking, all the way to the gym, where we stole Ryan's car (he was still there) and switched him out. And this is going to shock you: it TOTALLY STOPPED when he got in the car. Why does that always happen?
Also, while we were at the dentist, they found an extra cavity. It was 7:30 am and we'd already spent $263. And woke up the whole town. Awesome.
Friday, Emma got a 100% on her spelling test and my toe hurt.
Saturday, we found out Emma will be in the Olympics in 2016. More on that tomorrow.

Oh, I would have been crying as I sang the Alphabet song, too. Great job, being so brave, Jane!

YOU deserve a medal, my dear, for teaching Cub Scouts how to cook ANYTHING! I used to be the member of the Primary Presidency over Cub Scouting and I ended up crying in the Primary closet this past summer, because I was in charge of Cub Scout Day Camp and it robbed me of all happiness and nearly ruined my life. Er....I mean...uh, it was a challenge and I am sure you will do a lot better than I do with Cub Scouts. Sorry, about that tangent...I want you to know that I have fully repented of calling Cub Scouting a secret combination.

Seriously, all joking aside...I love reading your Sunday Summaries.

Proud of you for early work outs. Haven't been able to do that yet. Love the leftover night idea. Is it bad that every other night we have leftovers? I think I need a bigger family. And I didn't know you were in Cubs??? Me too! It's pretty darn fun, but I haven't tried the cooking one yet. love your blog.

Ahh, you have to have Thursdays like that every now and again to make you appreciate the really great days.

My kids love playing restaurant too! Does this mean they have a future in waitressing?

There's nothing like wrecking the car before 6 am. And I think I would have enjoyed the honking, but Sol would have been embarrassed when I dropped him at school. I don't know why he thinks I'm so embarrassing, except that I'm loud and obnoxious at all times and he's quiet.

I'd say it was a holiday if you got the playdoh out. I only get the playdoh out- never. At Grandma's. Give me playdoh, I put it directly in the trash.

We get the kids donuts after they get shots--cause shots hurt, don't it!

Actually, I goofed up by not bringing Jake's immunization card when he got his shots last year, so when we switched to the new pediatrician, he got another round of shots! Good thing he's tough. (I'm not telling him he didn't need the second round though :O.)

Wanna know a secret? I was SO, SO traumatized by my kindergarten shots that I have not had any since (Well, if you don't count the epidurals for child birth).

I remember the nurse saying I should have new shots when I was 15and I lived in fear of my 15th birthday... Luckily I am the 4th of 5 children so Mom forgot about the shots and I never reminded her. If I step on a rusty nail I'm in big trouble.

And the horn serves you right for waking up so early to exercise. Stop making my lazy butt look bad. However, I thank you for not driving down my street that morning. I was sleeping.

Sorry about the toe, the cavities, the car, and the shots. Other than that...sounds like a good week.

We are with you on the toys only purchased for Birthday, Christmas, and Kindergarten shots. It is the best anesthetic out there...a promise of a Wal-Mart toy isle run!

okay someone left you a comment name Brooke Romney and I was like when did my sister get a blog and not tell me. Duh...not my sister, but her name is Brooke. Can you tell I need sleep.?

I hate shots day. Blech. And I was laughing so hard at your horn-honking incident! I ran into the garbage can once on the way to the gym--crunch. And your report of getting HOME from the gym at 6:30 made me homesick for my good ol' days, my pre-pregnant days, when I had the energy to drag my butt to the gym at 5:30. Now I'm a slug.

Your Sunday Summaries rock! I may have to swipe that idea.

Oh how I hate playdo, I swear it gets everywhere. Love the menu idea, we just thow it all out there and say they have to have at least one spoonful of each. We get donuts after shots, because they hurt, don't it.

wow. what is WRONG with this world we live in? no character clothes? no play-doh? do i REALLY want to hang out with you people? and i also have a feeling that you would've joined my husband in his refusal to allow me to duck tape the sideview mirror back on the car when i ripped it off backing out of the garage. you are one of "those" people who gets it "repaired". bunch of sticks in the mud. all a ya'll.

I have had that horn blaring thing happen, too. It's HORRIBLE. Driving down the road with your horn going off, everyone staring, and you're unable to stop it? Horrifying.

And I think since you wreck the car early in the morning, you should not have to work out anymore. That's definitely a good reason to stay home and eat donuts. Want me to do it for you? I will. I'm a good friend like that.

My car did that once at a beach in Newport-- some random guy came over and unhooked some wires under my hood. Car thief maybe? :)

There are mornings when I don't even remember driving to the gym... and I contemplate napping in the car instead of going in. It is so nice and quiet!!

Now I am in suspence!!! I can't wait to hear about Emma and the olympics!!! Is there as much snow in Washington as there is here in Utah!!! Snow snow go away!!! I am actually playing with the idea of taking Dawson and Mckennah out of school for a ski day.I would need to talk Brooke or Merry into watching baby Blake for about 2 feedings! I miss you being here in Utah.

What to hear my bad mom secret? I threw away all the playdough in my house many years ago! But I have much respect for those who still own it as I do not have the patience for scraping it out of the carpet. The good news is that my guilt is always eased when I take my little guy to preschool and lo and behold the playdough is always out! Yeah for that.

Sounds like an exciting week. I like the early morning workouts too (if I have a buddy to meet that makes me get up). It's so nice to not have reasons why I can't go (sick kids, presidency meetings, errands that need to be run, etc) like I do later in the day. Except this morning my husband is sick and bed ...so I couldn't leave the house with him. :-(

Ok, I live next door and I didn't hear your horn. I must sleep like the dead! And I never used to let my kids play with play-dough either. That is until I bought something EVIL called "Moon Sand". Let me tell all of you: NEVER, NEVER, NEVER buy moon sand, it is truly of the devil! I now appreciate play dough more than I ever did before and actually let Nathan play with it once it awhile.

I really enjoyed the fact that this post had a list in it. That is very Jessica like.

I was thinking about your toe the other night. I'm sorry it still hurts.

One year I had a good friend (hi Margo!) give my boys about 30 colors of playdough and some cookie cutters for a birthday gift. And she also included a note of apologies to me. Nice touch.

You overachiever you- playdough, doctor and dentist visits (did you write everything down this time for the Ryan Report?), restaurant buffets, and an Olympian, huh?
When I grow up I want to be just like you!

i regularly let my kids w' playdough too. I keep the vacuum connected and within a few feet--and quarantine them to that area. Never had a problem. LOVE the leftovers menu idea--what a fun twist to an otherwise boring meal (for us--not your leftovers i'm sure).

We are a play-dough free house too. Glad we're not the only ones. I agree with Paige, it's a grandma's house activity for my kids.

Sounds like a pretty eventful (tiring?) week overall! Can't wait to hear about Emma and the Olympics.

Ouch! Those shots are the worst, but I would even do it again for a toy like that! When are you going to teach me how to make all of that stuff??? It sounds delicious.

Love the leftovers night. My mom used to call it "catch as catch can" and basically if 3 people all wanted part of the leftover lasagna it would be split into 3... even if it was just a few bites. Once a week she would clean out the fridge.

Me, I just let my son eat leftovers for breakfast. He loves it and we don't ever have leftovers left over for long!

My John is a strange one about shots.. they seem to give him the opportunity to "man up" he always goes on and on about how it doesnt hurt at all.. and he has to have a flu shot every year!

Cant wait to hear about the Olympics!

Wow! What a week!

So, I have the same problem. The computer won't work or something is wrong with the car, etc. etc. Then when I have Ryan fix it or try to recreate the problem for him, it magically works!

The car horn story is hilarious!! Why has all the fun car stuff happened to you lately.

Your Sunday summaries are really fun, I feel like I was there for part of your week! Hopefully one day I will actually get to be there for one day of your week!

You inspired me to get Ben's playdoh out today. I got him a creativity desk for Christmas but most days I just don't want to deal with the hastle and clean up, but after seeing your blog we got it out and had a great time playing together! I also love your leftover idea - though my husband refuses to eat any leftovers, even pizza (which is my favorite)!

Hollyween said...

Okay. I didn't read the other comments so this might sound repetetive, but I have totally dealt with the stupid horn honking thing! It is so weird and embarassing.

Seriously, you need to see a doctor about your toe. What's wrong with it?

Mario totally thinks all food is better after it is old and soggy and mixed together. I love leftovers because it means I didn't recently cook. I hate feeding the missionaries becase there are NO leftovers!
