Further evidence that no one’s going to be asking me to teach a Home Economics Course anytime soon

(MomEmma1(What?!   I can craft!)

Conversation from today:

Emma:  “  So…who are we going to get to sew on my buttons?”

Me:  “I can do that!”

Emma:  “YOU CAN?!”

Me:  “Yes!”

Emma:  “Do you even have a needle?”

Me: “Um…”

Conversation from yesterday:

Seth: “Dad I need some tape.”

Me: “What do you need tape for?”

Seth: “To fix my doggie’s ear.”

Me: “Oh … tape won’t work for fabric.  We’ll have to sew it.”

Seth: “Sew it?!?  What is that?”

Jessica...........hilarious! I think your kids and my kids could be great friends. These conversations sound like they could easily happen in our house!

Well, some of us like knowing that you can't do EVERYTHING! ;-)

Truly hilarious.

Hey, your incredible cooking and baking skills are utterly fabulous...and those skills never go out of style...all of the dumb crafts I made when I first got married to try and beautify my home are so lame 16 years later.

I call my sewing machine a "MENDING" machine, 'cuz ALL my pre teen motherhood years were full of exactly that... a button, a seam, a costume taken in. AND don't even start me on that DARNing subject-holes in socks are meant 4 the garbage!!
I am negotiating an ironing board now that I've been back on the mainland 4 a year... NEED to like the design on the fabric tho!!
Keep cooking n save the pile of mending for when ur mom visits, that's what my kids seem to do?
DO they still teach Home Ec. in schools?

I had to come back and tell you that I was talking with my sister Stephanie on the phone about this post and she laughed and told me how recently she noticed as she was dressing one of her boys for church that he was missing a button. They were running late so she just continued to dress him. When she picked up her twins from nursery she noticed that the nursery leader had sewn on a button for her. She laughed and said to me, "Really, has my life come to this?" because before having kids she was quite the accomplished seamstress. I, myself, have never been accomplished seamstress...and I shared with her how on any given Sunday, 2 or more of my sons are probably missing buttons on the front of their button down shirts but I just put their clip on ties, or in Evan's case, a regular tie and trust that it will cover up my inadequacy.

Oh, one more thing. When my kids need something fixed on their clothes, they ask to take it to Grandma (my Mom) even though I own a sewing machine and everything.

I'm a little surprised by the sewing comment by Seth since he knows what knitting is and thinks it's hard:)
