Move it

**by guest writer, Ryan

Today Seth went to Chuck E. Cheese's for the 1st time. He wasn't sure about the place, but he seemed reassured when I promised him that it was a place where "a kid can be a kid." I then told him that a giant mouse lived there.

"Does it squeak?"
"No he just talks."
"How does a mouse talk like?"

I made a lame explanation that didn't even really make sense to me. After arriving and losing the obligatory change as it lodged itself in the token machine we began to scout out the place. Catching a glimpse of the animatronic Chuck, I excitedly dragged Seth over.

Seth gawked at him in utter amazement as Chuck sang some song I'll never remember, moved his arms robotically and batted his humongous eyelids. He sat and stared for a minute and then noticed something.

"Can his legs move dad?"
"Guess we'll have to see."
"I want to see his legs move."
"Come on ... let's go see what else there is here."
"I'm staying here until his legs move."

Chuck's legs never did move, but lucky for me Seth's finally did.

Does it make us bad parents that we've still never taken the kids to Chuck E.'s?

UGH!!!!!! I had 5 errands to run yesterday at the same plaza where Chuck E Cheese is. That was my bribe for the kids. If they were good, we got to go there at the end of errands. If there were bad . . . straight home. Well my 10 year old was doing his darndest to HELP his siblings misbehave so we could go home after errands. BUT, his attempts failed and we ended up spending one hour there. I have a rule. My kids are NOT allowed to eat any food there because it is so nasty. (As a side note, how can they mess up so bad on just a simple iceberg lettuce salad bar? Even that is gross.)

I had 15 tokens in my car from past birthday parties my kids had been invited to. Each kid got 5 tokens. Hopefully I won't have to endure a Chuck E Cheese visit again until the end of the summer.

We love Chuck E Cheese's. We don't eat there, but the kids can run and play their games and I can read a magazine. Good break.

I have a friend that moved to Germany last week and as a parting gift (she was the one moving...shouldn't I have been the one bestowing gifts upon her?) Uh...anyway...as a parting gift she gave us all of the cleaning supplies that the moving company that the Army supplied wouldn't move for them. In the bags of cleaning supplies was a sandwich bag filled with Chuck E. Cheese tokens in it. I didn't know whether to be excited or cry. Maybe I will just bury them in the backyard and be done with it.

Seth is so awesome. I am happy for you that his legs finally did move. That made me laugh.

I love Seth's patience and determination. C.E.C. is a cesspool of staphylococci and white trash. I take my kids there every once in a while and I hate it. I tell myself I must be a good mom for taking them somewhere that they love and I despise.

Jessica - you probably don't remember me, but I was your freshman year next door neighbor (not Sarah, but Jen). I ran into Tiffany Stoker and she gave me your blog addy - what a darling family! My addy is http://dicou.blogspot.com

They built a Chuck E Cheese near me--FINALLY (or so I thought). I went there once and vowed to never go again. Horrendous.

However, I don't recall an animatronic Chuck at our place. Maybe I'll have to go back for some more misery.

I love Chuck E Cheese and proud of it :)

Given, I don't go on Saturdays - weekday mornings are nice and uncrowded. Kids love it and I steal their tokens to do the basketball games.
