Spasibo

After trying out recipes all month (yay on the Pelmini and the Borscht, nay on the Peirogi—seen here):

Picture 001

and cooking for, truly, 8 hours

and worrying that all my mismatched and lame dishes would look dumb

Picture 043

and a trip to the Kiev market for some black bread and smetana (Russian sour cream…it’s on EVEYRTHING)

Picture 042

and having Ryan type Russian food names for all my dishes

Picture 041

and reading the LONGEST (though most excellent) Anna Karenina

anna-karenina

I must admit…book club was a success.

You are a rock star. I can't believe you did all that. Please move here and be my BFF?

Well it only fitting that a epic novel is accompanied by food that takes an eon to prepare.

I'm so jealous of your book club. My friends here don't read. It makes me miss you all the more.

I don't know what I'm more amazed by - the food or that you finished that book. It was the only book I had in English for many many months, and I still couldn't motivate myself to get through it. I just stopped reading.

Wow! That was very cool of you!

And Periogi is better if ya just buy them in the frozen food section and then deep fry them. YUM! :)

Wow. I'm so impressed not only with the food and the work that went into the food but by the book choice alone. I've never read it. I suppose I should.

Anna Karenina is my all time favorite book...I know, I'm weird. I'm beyond impressed at your book group preparations. Your friends are lucky.

I bet everyone loved it. I feel bad for whoever has to host next month's meeting! Your club is lucky to have you! Maybe you could skype me in?

You might think I'm 'just saying this', but then again maybe not because I say it ALL the time. But it is a HUGE dream of mine to be your next door neighbor. Do you think the stars will ever align to make it happen?

Your food looks awesome! Good job!

I just read a book about Russia called A Train to Potevka. The author is someone I met when I lived in Moscow in 1993. He was a Secret Agent Man. It was an interesting book but not as good as Anna Karenina. :)

I want to read it, but I just can't get started. I'm intimidated. But I would probably read it (or pretend to) if I could join that party.

I agree with Stie...baby, you are a total rock star! I know Seth thinks so because of that cake and your book club does because of your amazing spread!

OK, book club is something I haven't tried yet...
HOW do you keep up w/ all the plate spinning?
YES, I am asking YOU!!
The pressure of cooking all that is enough to un-enroll me for LIFE!! I am a package cooker now!
Looked like loads of fun for all your friends tho!!!
