Listen to this!

**disclaimer: While I think David Archuleta is an extremely talented singer, he's not my favorite. He's a little boring and awkward. I am a David Cook fan, all the way.
Kay. In honor of American Idol's season finale this week, I wanted to share this very interesting bit of truth.
I have a friend in another ward who knows David A's dad REALLY well. They talked on the phone last week.
So you (if you follow American Idol at all) can guess what my first question was...
Is he really the bad Stage Dad the media says he is??
Rik and his wife adamantly told me "No." They said he is a great guy and super laid back and that it is a complete lie that has been simply made up.
Which I think is so tragic. Can you imagine if the whole world thought you were this damaging, awful parent? There isn't anything I work harder at than my parenting, and I can't imagine having everyone think I was horrible.
So I'm using my forum to share what I believe is the truth. Pass it on.

Way to stick up for the dad whose doing his best! That would be awful to have the whole country judging your parenting. Yikes.

I love David Archuleta in all is dorkiness and awkward cuteness. I think David Cook is a better American Idol though. He's got the rock star in him and Archuleta doesn't.

The media does awful things to people's lives. Even with celebrities, I feel like the media needs to back off. What ever happened to privacy & having normal lives.

Thanks for this!! It's nice to know the truth, not what the media chooses to tell us!!

And I'm a Cook fan, too!!! :)

I can't remember if I've commented before... Love your blog, though!

I'm glad to hear that. I was feeling really bad for them and was really SICK of all of the media stories (that were exaggerated with each new story)I don't really care which one wins, they're both good.

The media is lame they always have to make something more dramatic just so it's more interesting. Isn't is sad that, that's how it is? And we American's usually by it.

I like Cook better too but I think it would actually benefit his career if he came in second. I think he would have more freedom making the album he wants instead of what the AI producers want if he was not the winner. I am glad you cleared this up about Archuleta's dad - you never know how much of the media is true or not but you start to wonder....and we do need to discuss survivor - email me at melindahaaga@yahoo.com

I've read some stuff about it too and the rep for David's dad said the same thing...this is all blown completely out of the water and it's not true. I believed them. David is so sweet and adorable.
I like Cook's style better though too.

It gets more votes in their corner...
Some rumors were that the Osmond mom
was REALLY pushy back in the day!?
I think that anyone who can GET their child to
excel must be a bit OUT there?!?!
My kids have thought I PUSHED 'em onto stage...
ME? I just wanted company up there during those
performances.
I think they actually ASK the parents what kind of
role do they want to put forth and then they play the audience off of it... Kind of a set up!?
Anyways it does add a deeper dimension to the show!?
Hey, I watched "Office" over Jenna's shoulder on the computer while I was doing her hair... I am the wrong generation, very dated, because I DIDN'T get it???!! I'm still back with the Dallas and who shot JR groupies... Glad you guys have your "SHOWS" back!

It was really great of you to post this! I agree, what a tragic thing for a parent and child to have to experience.

One thing that I heard is that he was banned from being backstage because he had David change the lyrics to a song and it was a copyright violation and American Idol had to pay money for, said violation. I couldn't help but wonder...did he have him change the lyrics to make them more appropriate, meaning less sexual or something? I don't know if that is why lyrics were changed but, I have to say if I were a parent of a child on AI and the lyrical content was questionable I would want my child to change the lyrics, too. It just seems like the poor guy is definitely getting unfairly judged.

Once again, thanks for posting this.

I'm rooting for David Cook too.

Yay for truth. :)

I'm going to laugh because I actually felt bad about this story. When they show his dad on TV every week clapping and smiling and rooting for his son, I think, no way can he fake that proud look in his eyes. It actually relieves me to know that the stories are false. For the record, I think Cook is going to win.

Way to use your blogging for the greater good. I was watching E! News the other night when they were talking about this (hey, Dan is out of town). I guess I can't rely on E! for accurate reporting.

Go figure.

It's good to know that he isn't like we hear he is. I always wondered about that- thanks for clearing it up! And, David Cook rocks!!!

I've been wondering about this story. How sad that the media has blown the whole thing out of proportion!

Thanks for clearing it up!

And how ya feeling?? (do you hate that question? Are you over the sick part yet?)

Melissa said...

I know... I feel so bad for him and his dad. They seem like a sweet family!

David Cook is definitely my choice. He's ready to make an album and David Archuleta is surely on his way, but it is OK if he grows up just a bit more first.
As a singer, I think you really need a parent behind you guiding you and helping out when you're still a teen.

Yeah. I really hope so.

And there's nothing like the truth is there!

interesting. the media can be crazy and cruel like that. It's hard to believe anything you read...

unless of course it's on a blog ;)

We are big fans of David Cook!!! He grew up about 10 minutes from where we live and the whole city is CRAZY with Cook Fever.

Also, interesting side note: one of the 4th grade teachers at our school went to prom with David Cook.

It is like we are almost famous.

SO glad to hear this. I really was thinking poorly of the dad lately and I hadn't even heard all that much. (I try not to pay attention to Extra and Inside Edition stuff...)

And sorry to say, I am a HUGE David A. FAN!! And I'll be voting tonight. ALOT.

He makes me cry, he's so dang sweet and naive and innocent and darling.

Laurie said...

Good to know.

And while we're sharing Idol connections, I just have to say things haven't been the same for me since Brooke left. Though, I really like Cook. By the way, Brooke's husband dated my sister Val's roommate at BYU. So we are tightlikethis.

jessica said...

Thanks for passing on the truth, I'm all about it...

Oh and GO DAVID COOK!!!! I love him and Aric is getting jealous of my love for DC. I keep telling him he has nothing to worry about...after all I am like a decade older than him...plus I have two kids.

Paige said...

I really like David Cook too. And I've been eating up all the "his dad has been banned" gossip. So this is interesting. I don't know why I wanted to believe bad things about his dad- maybe because it's all so boring and that at least makes him interesting. Is the mom really young? She looks young. And I think he's GAY but doesn't know it yet. It's hard for a gay mormon. So there. I'm glad you blogged this.

Tristan said...

Good to know! I suspected a bad rumor.

Lindsay said...

We are LDS, we should support David A. But we, like you, are super Cook fans, sorry!

Hazen5 said...

Thanks for that, I too have believed the Media! (Isn't that awful)

stephanie said...

Dave and I have been rooting for DC too (much to my mom's chagrin, she thinks I'm sacreligious). However, I'm watching the final show right now and I think DA will win because he really sang so great last night. On the subject of reality TV, what did you think about this season's survivor?

stephanie said...

Ok, so I was wrong.

Are you happy today??? I was actually a little shocked last night. I think my dad is in mourning. Thanks for passing on the "truth".
