Old Habits Die Hard

I am woken up by Faith crying in the dark of the night as Jessica gets up to go feed her.

... a short time later, waken again by Faith's familiar sound. I realize groggily that this is one of those rare nights that Faith is demanding some company after already having her middle of the night feeding but well before morning.

Feeling bad for my tired wife, I try to gauge if Jessica would rather have me bring Faith to her so she can feed her again in bed or if Jessica is trying to teach Faith to get back sleep by herself.

... crying.

"Faith needs to learn get back to sleep on her own," Jessica yawns.

... more crying.

Jessica gets up mumbling something about notifying Faith that she needs to go back to sleep.

... loud crying.

Jessica and Faith come back into our room as my wife informs me, "She tricked me."

Apparently she was too cute crying to leave in her crib.

Ryan-

In case you haven't figured it out by #5...just assume she would like you to go get her. You will get major brownie points just for the effort. I promise she (Jessica) is awake and aware enough to stop you if she wants to let Faith cry. Just a little unsolicited advice. (my least favorite kind too)

Blast her adorableness!

I would be powerless against Faith, too. I would try to cram myself into her crib if she wanted me to, 'cause she is so cute!

Those blasted babies trick us all the time!

I'm amazed you hear her cry... my husband doesn't.

Why is it so hard to stay tough? How is it they can fool us so easily?... but if anybody could have a sense of humor in the middle of the night, it'd be Jessica :)

what a sly child. technically, you've run out little fingers for your daughters to be wrapped around... however she still seems to be finding a way.

LOL. The joys of newborns.

Foiled by the cuteness of a cuddly baby. I'm sure it won't be the last time.

So, I'm guessing that my motto of "whatever works," especially at night, isnt the best idea with #5? Because really, how could you resist that little bundle?

Manipulative at this age? Hang on!!

She is so cute, how can you possibly not give in? All these babies are hard on my "wish I was a grandma" heart. Love them!

Babies are too wonderful to let cry at night...I could never do it.
The sweetest time is when the rest of the world is sleeping, and it's just me and my baby. Enjoy it!!

We always try that trick too, then they end up in our bed or I end up on their floor. They totally have us figured out.

I can't do it either. I am tricked EVERY night as well.

I have totally been tricked by a baby as well. They have some serious powers.

I sure hope this next little guy is cute enough to trick me, or he might be in his crib thru all those tears. :)

I wonder if Faith and Laura have been sharing tips on how to get their parents to cave in because that story sounds all too familiar.

I think that cry was saying, "I am growing tonight and you are the BEST jersy cow around!!" Congrats for decyfering baby crying... Baby #5 becomes child #1 when they are hungry, but naptime in the mid day is a MUST!! ALOHA!

She would trick me too!

That's hilarious. I truly admire that you can be funny and have a sense of humor during the 2nd middle-of-the-night baby pit stop.

better than my husband who would wake up and say, "wow...the baby slept all night!" not realizing that i had been up at least 54 times.

Hi friend! Mainly Jessica, but I like you too Ryan :-) As I was getting ready for bed tonight I decided that I would catch up on your posts (I will admit it's been awhile) as my special treat for the day. What fun it was to see a message from you on mine. We must have been on the same wavelength.

Faith is adorable. It sounds like you are doing amazing at juggling five! You're an inspiration.

Sorry about the camera, that's a bummer! I remember reading about the previous camera's destruction.

And the moose, how truly entertaining!

Any chance you are going to Women's Conference? I'm doubting it since you have a nursing baby. Let me know . . .
Missing you!
